The Livingstone family arrived in Langley in 1887. Their son, Frank, married Eustatia Agnes, a registered nurse from England who served in the Boer War. In either 1910 or 1912 they built a house that also operated as a hospital, known as Langley’s first hospital, located at 3425 232 Street. 232 Street is also known as Livingstone Road. Mrs. Livingstone’s hospital was a general hospital, but she mostly took on maternity cases. The hospital was also unique because it had indoor plumbing and a bathtub, and was likely the home of the first indoor bathroom in the Fraser Valley. The hospital closed in 1931 when Mrs. Livingstone died after a long and painful illness.
