People/Subject
Simonds Elementary School
Thomas Simonds farmed just west of Murray’s Corners on 48th Avenue from 1891 to 1917. Simonds Road (48th from 208th – 216th) was named for his son Hazelette (Hazy), who was killed at Vimy Ridge in 1917. Built in 1959 as a two-room building, Simonds Elementary School has grown by leaps and bounds. Located at 20190-48 Avenue in Langley City, the school has seen numerous changes, including more classrooms, a library, staff facilities and a gymnasium. Simonds Elementary hosts students from Kindergarten to Grade 5. It is a “feeder” school for H. D. Stafford Middle School.
