Mask depicting Huxwhukw (or Hok Hokw), a supernatural crane who cracks the skulls of men to suck out their brains. From Kwakwaka'wakw, specifically for Hamatsa society rituals. Mask attributed to Charlie George Sr. (born 1880), of Blunden Harbour, Vancouver Island. The mask's lower jaw is hinged, and there is a string hidden in the cedar ribbons that opens the jaw and allows the beak to snap shut with a snap.
