This wrapped-twined circular basket (a) and lid (b) is woven from cedar and different types of grasses including sea, chi’tapt (sharp or swamp), or toq-toq (three-corner). The lip of the basket base has a cedar rim. A cedar patch is centered on the base of the basket. The base of the basket uses a coiled weaving technique.
The grasses are coloured with synthetic aniline dye. The basket exterior has a pattern of five rhomboid shapes composed of black and light brown alternating checker squares. Along the base and lid edges are seven coloured decorative rows, in a pattern of: black, light brown, red, purple, red, light brown, and black. This pattern of colours is also featured on the lid. The lid handle is the center point connecting a three-lobed design, which is black coloured with red accents.
The makers were likely Nuu-chah-nulth or Makah.
