Description
The Fred Braches fonds consists of records and photographs created and collected by Fred Braches in the process of researching the Muench family, who had lived in both Maple Ridge and Langley. The records include vital statistics and pertain to the family’s history. Record types include: correspondence, vital records, original family photographs, photographs from cemeteries, research notes, photocopies of newspaper articles, multiple drafts of the article to appear in “Whonnock Notes”, and copies of the final publication.
The fonds are arranged into the following series: Correspondence (1990-2002); Research (1990-2002); Photographs (2000-2002).

Scope & Content: This series consists of correspondence between Fred Braches and members of the Muench family regarding Fred Braches research on the history of the Muench family. Some correspondence pertains to burial locations of family members, including photographs of headstones.
Arrangement: The files in this series are arranged according to the original filing system of the creator. Files are sorted by each recipients name and the individual of the Muench family that is the subject of the correspondence.

Scope and Content: Series consists of photographs Fred Braches collected during the course of his research. Many of the photographs are original family photographs that are mounted. Other photographs include photographs of grave sites throughout British Columbia.

Muench, Benjamin
Benjamin M. Muench was born in 1871. He married Elizabeth Elanor Reid on April 4, 1900 in New Westminster. The couple had three sons: Wilfred (Winky), Edward, and Bernard (Dutch). Elizabeth died in about 1918. Benjamin died on November 6, 1945. He was buried in the Fort Langley Cemetery.
Muench, Bernard
Bernard Muench (1925-1995) was the son of Bernard Henry (Dutch) Muench (1902-1966) and Florence Armishaw (1902-1950), and a great-grandson of Edward Muench, who homesteaded in West Langley in the mid-1860s. Bernard was married to Mina McIntosh. They had three children: two boys and one girl. Bernard died in 1995.

Muench, Bernard Henry (Dutch)
Bernard Henry (Dutch) Muench was born April 28, 1902 to Benjamin and Elizabeth Muench. He was a grandson of Edward Muench, who homesteaded in West Langley in the mid-1860s. He married Florence Armishaw (1902-1950). The couple had at two children, Bernard Muench and Shirley Yeomans. After Florence passed away, Bernard remarried Dresda Thomocine Hepsley (nee Hamilton). He died August 19, 1966.
Muench, Heather
Heather Elenor Muench was born in Fort Langley on 23 May 1929 to Wilfred (Winky) and Emma Elizabeth Muench (nee Wright, then Trattle). She was a student in Fort Langley in the 1930s and Langley High School in the 1940s. She later married a Mr. Pankewicz. She passed away on 10 May 1998 in Alberta.
Muench, Wilfred John (Winky)
Wilfred John (Winky) Muench was born Dec. 3, 1899. On February 16th, 1924, he married Emma Elizabeth Trattle, the widow of Alfred Trattle. The couple had seven children: Heather, Viola, Joy, Ben, Larrie, Jack, and Claud. Wilfred was stepfather to Emma's two boys from her previous marriage, Alfred and William Trattle. Wilfred grazed his cattle on the west end of the Fort Langley sawmill site, and he and Mr. Back rented Lot 49 (probably owned by the CNR). Wilfred died January 4, 1963.
