Canada's Welcome, a poem by Janet Spalding Morrison of Fort Langley. Written for the 1939 visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Four verses:
Welcome, great Sire, and Queen so fair,
Ten million souls acclaim thee;
Of gentle mien and kindly way-
King of the British Empire.
The sun ne'er sets, 'tis said, upon
Thy vast and great dominions,
Whilst o'er our heads the Union Jack,
Our flag revered and sacred,
As yesterday - today - will float
For ever and for alway.
God bless our King, his gracious Queen,
God grant them peace for ever-
God Save The King.
Blow ye, you winds from Heaven,
And blow ye, you tempests high;
But Canada's flame of welcome
Shall ascend up to the sky.
Like the flight of the lonely eagle
O'er mountain and o'er sea,
Canada wings her welcome
To thee, great Majesty.
God bless our King, his Queen so fair,
God grant them peace for ever-
God Save The King.
Like the murmuring sea in a tiny shell,
Children's voices, as a tide, will swell
In Canada's mighty ovation-
And to their children they will tell,
In the land of the whispering Maple,
Of a noble King and a gracious Queen,
And of Canada's great acclamation.
God bless our King, our gracious Queen,
God grant them peace for ever-
God Save The King.
From sea to sea, from shore to shore,
Far o'er the great Pacific;
O'er meadow land and fertile plain,
And through the sunlit valley-
And o'er the murky swampland mire,
O'er snowclad, purpling mountain,
The echoing ages still will ring
With Canada's welcome to her King-
King of the British Empire.
God bless our King, our gracious Queen,
God grant them peace or ever-
God Save The King.
