The first page has an inscription handwritten in faded black ink that reads, "James Plaxton / Teacher / Sep. 1st 1880 AD." Below this is additional handrwritten text in black ink that is crossed out. It reads, "Jmes[?] G. Shearer / Teacher / Sep. 10th 1878 AD."
