Public Programs

The Township of Langley through the Langley Centennial Museum offers a variety of intergenerational arts and cultural programs. Courses and activities at the museum and at other locations in Fort Langley range from visual arts instruction to history based family scavenger hunts. Although the Museum’s catalogue of offerings changes from season to season, the selections are numerous, educational and fun. Everyone from “parents with tots” to “grandparents with time to spare” will find something of interest. Search, and review our many programs and register soon. Music Together

Explore songs, chants, dance, and instrument play in this fun research-based music and movement program for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and the adults who love them!  Children 10 months and under are free with a registered sibling.  Reduced rate available for additional siblings.

Fashion Design Sketching

If your child is inspired by fashion then this is the class for them!  Kids sketch models then draw and colour all kinds of fabulous fashion pieces.  Basic stitching techniques are also taught and participants have the opportunity to tinker with a variety of fabrics and embellishments while making small garments and other stitched creations.

Clay Creations: The Basics

Enjoy getting your hands dirty and unleashing your creativity while learning to sculpt and model clay with professional artist Laurel Vlieg.  Create a variety of ceramic pieces using slab, coil or sculpting techniques in this personalized, relaxed class that geared towards beginner to intermediate sculptors.  Participants will have the opportunity to have their pieces glazed and fired offsite for an extra charge through the instructor.

Monotype Printmaking Using Gelli Plates

Discover monoprinting using Gelli plates, a durable and reusable printing plate that looks and feels like gelatin!   Its highly sensitive surface allows for impressions to be made and then be transferred to paper.  One-of-a-kind painterly prints are created easily and quickly, allowing you to work intuitively and create small works of art that can be used in a variety of ways.

Art Journaling

Give art journaling a try!  In this fun hands-on workshop with Katina Giesbrecht!  She will guide you through creating a mini themed art journal to take home with your favourite quotes!  Students will use collage, basic mark making, and other techniques to create a small art journal.  Art journaling is a wonderful creative outlet for anyone wanting to try new creative techniques.  No experience required.

Creative Bookbinding for Beginners

Learn how to fold, stitch, glue and weave beautiful artistic books.  Using a variety of papers and card-stock, participants will learn some basic binding techniques.  Paints, stamps and collage materials can then be used to embellish and enliven the finished piece.

Historic Fort Langley Walking Tour & Tea

In celebration of Heritage Week, the Langley Centennial Museum is presenting a lively and exciting walking tour and tea.  The tour will stroll through historic Fort Langley with Langley Centennial Museum Curator, Kobi Christian.   Kobi will discuss local lore and legend, while shedding light on the area's historical buildings, businesses, and people.  Finish up the tour at the Blacksmith Bakery which is located on the original site of Reid's Blacksmith Shop (Circa. 1910).  Warm up your hands with a fresh cup of coffee or tea and enjoy a small sweet.  Walking tour will run rain or shine and umbrellas will be provided if necessary.  Tour starts at Langley Centennial Museum.
